Tummy Tuck
A flat, even, firm, tummy - everyone wants one. But few succeed.
Pregnancies, weight gain and weight loss take a tremendous toll on a woman's figure, especially in the stomach area. Repeatedly stretched and scarred, many women's abdomens are loose, oversized and out of shape. But they don't have to be.
A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can help. It can remove the excess skin and tighten up the underlying musculature giving you a flatter, firmer, tighter stomach and a thinner waist as well.
Procedure and Recovery
- Loose tissue from the left and right of the abdomen are pulled together towards the centre and sutured together
- This tightens muscles, provides a stronger abdominal wall and makes the waist smaller
- The skin is then lowered and the excess is removed.
- A new belly button is created at the proper position (the old one is now too low)
- A firm elastic dressing is placed over the area
- Scarring is permanent but will fade over time
- You may be up and around within a few days, but you should avoid over activity and straining for 3-4 weeks
- You'll need to remain in hospital for 2-3 days or so with your hips bent to reduce the strain on your abdominal area
- When you leave hospital the dressing will be replaced with an abdominal support
- You may have to wear a light support garment for a few weeks
- Within 6 months your scars should become flatter, lighter in colour and less noticeable
