Breast Reduction

Big breasts can be a big problem, both physically and psychologically.

They can be painful, distort the posture, cause difficulty in breathing, upper back and neck ache and irritation at the crease of the breast, and also make exercise difficult or impossible. They also often receive unwelcome attention.

A Breast Reduction is a procedure to reduce the size and reshape the breasts by removing excess skin and underlying tissue. An oversized areola (the dark skin around the nipple) can also be made smaller at the same time.

Although the procedure is usually permanent, breasts can still increase in size afterwards in the event of weight gain, birth control pills or pregnancy

Procedure and Recovery

  • The procedure takes about 3 hours
  • Excess tissue, fat and skin from the breast are removed then the nipple, areola and underlying tissue are moved to a new, higher position
  • Scars are kept as inconspicuous as possible, however, they will be faintly visible and permanent
  • Since the scars are around and below the nipples, they should not be noticeable even in low-cut clothing
  • Discomfort will subside after a few days
  • You will be up and around in a day or two but your mobility may be limited
  • Swelling and bruising subsides in a couple of weeks
  • Within a week, your dressing will be replaced by a soft bra which you'll wear for several weeks
  • You may return to work about two weeks after surgery
  • Scars will remain visible for about a year and then gradually fade
